I am the Social Media Coordinator and a therapist in both the Therapy & Spiritual Integration Programs program.

What are you looking for out of your therapy experience?

I provide an eclectic approach, primarily utilizing behavioral, humanistic, psycho-spiritual, and inner child modalities – with a specialization in complex trauma, shadow work, generational patterns, and the journey to authenticity. My practice is person-centered, meaning that I’m a guide in your exploration of self – I may be nudging and pointing things out, but you, as the client, are ultimately leading where we go. My goal is to enrich and point out the positive traits that you already possess, and offer acknowledgment into aspects of yourself or your circumstances that you maybe haven’t seen yet. This may look like exploring your emotional reactions, your conditioned behaviors, or even the way you think about yourself as an individual.

It is part of my psychological and spiritual practice to believe that we all have what we need to heal, but certain life circumstances may have covered up or hidden those attributes. The process of inner child work can look like uncovering hidden gems forgotten due to embarrassment, shame, bullying, or consistent invalidation. My preferred client is someone who is introspective, curious, and is open to challenging and looking at situations from multiple perspectives.

Healing isn’t linear, and no two individuals have the same healing process. Together we’ll figure out what your needs are and structure therapy around where you are presently. I look forward to working with you!

I have experience in working with a diverse span of mental health conditions through my experiences in community mental health and private specialty clinics. I have found that I work particularly well with clients struggling with complex diagnoses and behaviors including Bipolar Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, Self-Harm, and Dissociative Disorders. I believe that all individuals can benefit from therapy and have a particular passion for working with clients that identify within the LGBTQ community as well as adolescents, families, and young adults.

Life can be full of challenges and sometimes we need someone to talk to in order for us to feel like ourselves again. As a trauma-informed therapist, I believe in providing each of my clients with a nonjudgmental stance, empathy, and a caring attitude through their toughest moments.

I consider my clinical approach to be both person-centered and behavioral. As such, I believe that all clients are doing the best that they can with the skills that they have and that they can benefit from learning additional skills to implement between sessions. I believe that there is a great benefit to processing together in therapy as well as learning and trying skills in our everyday life. If you are looking for a therapist with a passion for discussing the “tough stuff” in life, consider me as a therapist.  I recognize that therapy can be challenging at times and It’s my hope that we can work together to make changes in your life at a pace that feels comfortable and effective. I would love to chat and see if I would be a good fit for you!

Self-worth is inherent. You are enough. I am deeply committed to creating a safe, empowering space for healing for everyone so you can freely express yourself without fear of judgment. This means that we will explore your experiences and challenges together. In facing the challenges of anxiety, trauma or interpersonal struggles, I am here to support you in taking the reins of your life. Through collaborative exploration, we will navigate the complexities of your experiences and work towards restoring balance and empowerment in your life.

I specialize in supporting individuals who have trouble with interpersonal conflicts, anxiety, childhood trauma, depression, setting boundaries, navigating life transitions, and more. Recognizing the uniqueness of each individual and their identities and experiences they hold, I tailor my therapeutic approach to suit your specific needs. Together, we will explore various methods to find what resonates best for your journey toward healing and empowerment. Some of the modalities that I lean into are somatic exercises, inner child work, psychoeducation, DBT skills, IFS, and CBT.

Everything I do is trauma-informed which means that we go at your pace, and acknowledge how trauma impacts many aspects of our lives. I also work from an anti-oppressive lens, which means that we take into account how oppression, inequality, and power impact you. As a therapist, this means practicing cultural competency.

I am a limited license social worker with a master’s in social work and a bachelor’s in psychology. In the past I have worked with Clients on conflicts in their relationship, building self-worth, learning healthy forms of communicating, inner child work, and utilizing somatic exercises that focus on the body and how emotions appear within the body.

I am currently accepting clients!

We live in a fast-paced, demanding, and confusing world. We experience trauma in many facets of our lives, almost on a daily basis. As you try to navigate it all, you may feel like you’re drowning, aimless, and overwhelmed. You want to feel confident in the choices you make, comfortable in your own mind and body, and capable of handling the obligations of your life.

I work with people like you who are struggling with imposter syndrome, anxiety, overwhelm, depression, trauma; people who are navigating life changes, grief, crisis, and the fear of the unknown. My approach is person-centered and solution-focused, meaning that I meet you where you are, at the intersection of all your identities and through the lens of the traumas you have experienced, and we will look for solutions to your concerns together, while acknowledging (and where possible, targeting) the systems of oppression that may be contributing to your pain. I provide space to face fears and realities you want to avoid, but know you need to address if you’re going to move past them. Together, we’ll explore techniques to turn down the noise and the expectations so that you can hear your own wants and needs, and we’ll work to strengthen your sense of unconditional self-worth.

I recently graduated from the University of Michigan with my MSW. I have worked as a crisis counselor for almost two years. I have completed trainings in trauma and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and I am always adding new skills to my repertoire. Before I became a therapist, I was a licensed attorney and used that expertise to empower Chicago residents to find answers to legal questions independently, support survivors of sexual assault within the criminal justice system, and strengthen community resources for domestic violence survivors and their pets.

It takes tremendous strength and courage to ask for help, to let go of familiar but unhealthy coping strategies in order to reach for unfamiliar peace. Join me in therapy and let’s explore ways to find your unique peace of mind.

Laken Champagne

Specialties: Sound Healing, Oracle Readings, & Tarot Readings

Locations: Virtual (now) & Ann Arbor (Fall 2024)

Click here to learn more about Laken!

I am a certified Sound Healer, Tarot Reader, & Oracle Reader.

To me – the most important aspect of healing is understanding the self. The deeper we connect to our true selves, the better we are able to navigate life ups and downs. In occasion, our subconscious works extra hard to block
things from our conscious thoughts, in an attempt to protect us from the pain we experienced. What I’ve learned throughout my own healing journey is: when blockages are present in our mind, they are also present in our energetic body, and in our spirit. We can attempt to ground and connect, but if there is something in the way (like stored and hidden trauma) the energy won’t flow properly. When this happens, our bodies enter into a state of
distress and begin to build up the stress hormone, cortisol, which can cause an array of health issues, both physically and mentally. My job as a sound healer is to release those blockages and allow your chakras (mini energetic “brains” throughout your body) to be open, and aligned, so your body can properly heal as you work through your trauma.

Sound is extremely healing, and works with our cells in our body on a molecular level to allow our body to process its own natural healing abilities. I have been learning and working with sound as a healing modality for over two years and it has truly changed my life. Along with the use of sound, I have utilized the guidance of tarot and Oracle cards. They have given me a path to take in moments when I was unsure of what was next. I have a minor background in psychology as well, and this has helped me to fully navigate the mind, body, spirit connection. I am very passionate about working with the shadow-self and inner child, along with the chakra system, to connect us to our true self in
order to live a fulfilling and healthy life. Sound and tarot are a wonderful combination of modalities to assist in the healing journey of your mind, body, and spirit.
